Meet our Attorneys
Joseph P. Covelli
Joe Covelli, owner and founder of Covelli Law Offices, leads his experienced staff in areas such as estate planning & settlement, real estate property disputes, domestic affairs, personal injury, contracts, criminal cases, and elder law care. Over the past thirty years, Joe has been instrumental in developing a niche for the legal needs of credit unions throughout western Pennsylvania. Joe’s academic career began at Thomas Jefferson High School and continued at the University of Pittsburgh where he obtained a Triple Major in Political Science, History, and Psychology with honors. He is an alumnus of the Duquesne University School of Law, earning the degree of Juris Doctorate in 1980. One year later, he founded Covelli Law Offices. Since acquiring the firm’s first credit union client, Joe has played a major role in Pennsylvania’s credit union movement. Joe actively participates in the Pennsylvania Credit Union Association by conducting seminars regarding bankruptcy, collections, personnel issues, and more. Joe also attends various chapter meetings in order to fully understand credit union needs and legal concerns. Joe has remained close to the Duquesne University School of Law since the time of his Graduation, and in 2010, was appointed to the Law School Alumni Association Board of Governors. The Board meets regularly to discuss the needs of the Law School, which was ranked in the Top 100 Schools by Super Lawyers Magazine. A life-long resident of the local Pittsburgh area, Joe belongs to the American Bar Association, the Pennsylvania Bar Association, and the Allegheny County Bar Association, where he is a member of the Bankruptcy and Commercial Law section, the Family Law section, and the Probate and Trust Law section. Joe’s enthusiasm working with the youth of the South Hills area reflects his desire to ensure a bright future for our judicial system. Joe has been the legal consultant for the Thomas Jefferson High School Mock Trial competition team for over 10 years. “I enjoy working with kids who have an interest in the law and guiding them to better thinking and decision making. They learn skills that will be useful to them no matter what field they go into,” Joe says. Joe taught various Business Law Courses for five years while an Adjunct Professor at Pennsylvania State University. Joe also is past President of the West Jefferson Hills Chamber of Commerce, President of the Rotary and was a Founding Board Member of the Historical Society. Over the years, Joe and his Law Firm have repeatedly been recognized as outstanding by community publications. Covelli Law Offices will be celebrating 35 years of being in business next year.Natalie Piscione
